As you fly over South Stradbroke Island the pilot will point out the three different locations on the Island and you can choose where to land the seaplane and start your day. All of the resorts and bars are within walking distance and you can be dropped off at one location and picked up from another. The furtherest walk is 30 minutes between Couran Cove and the Maclarens beach bar.
Tipplers Bar and Cafe is a beautiful location on the western side of the island were all the boaties hang out. The food and atmosphere here is fabulous. On the weekends it gets very busy as it is so popular. However it is definitely worth the wait for the food. During the week it is a quiet and relaxing place with the local Wallabies often in sight. If you like Steak sandwiches you will probably not find a better one served in Australia. (that’s big call but seriously they are good)
Couran Cove Island Resort is the largest resort on the island. You can use the canoes and paddle boards for free or maybe hire a bike and check out the natural bushland and surf beach. Perhaps relaxing by the pool is more your style, or go walking and explore some of the many tracks and wildlife and experience some amazing and diverse scenery.
There is a restaurant on Spa Island by the pool and a Tavern overlooking the Marina. Both have excellent food and are great places to soak up the view and have a relaxing drink.
Maclarens Landing has just opened the new beach bar which is a fantastic place to watch the boats cruise by and dolphins swim past. It is getting really popular with the locals with its casual style. Unfortunately, it only opens on the weekends at the moment.
Or if none of the above suits you, take your own picnic or enjoy the picnic area and campgrounds just to the south of the Tipplers Bar and Cafe.
The flight home along South Stradbroke Island beach is truly stunning and often you will catch a glimpse of some of the thousands of Humpback Whales that swim past the Gold Coast beaches between May and November.
